Sedgwick County reports 8 house fires on Fourth of July

At least eight residential fires were reported in Sedgwick County over July Fourth, but only one was thought to have been caused by fireworks.

The Wichita Eagle reports that at the same time, there were only a handful of grass fires in the area. Sedgwick County Division Chief Terry Mauldin said grass fires are usually more common on the Fourth of July.

One of Monday’s fires at a duplex was the scene of a fatal fire Dec. 12. The cause of that fire was under investigation,

Mauldin said with the heat and humidity, “the crews took a beating.” But no injuries were reported.
