Pony owned by city of Wichita recovering from pit bull mauling

? A tiny pony owned by the city of Wichita is back in his shelter at a city park, three weeks after being mauled by pit bulls.

But it’s likely to be a while before the little pony, named Storm, will rejoin the six other ponies at O.J. Watson Park in giving rides to children. The Wichita Eagle reports that Storm still has a triangle-shaped wound on his side where saddle straps would rub.

A Wichita animal hospital has given Storm free care since the June 11 attack by two pit bulls that got inside the pony shelter. He suffered serious wounds that were closed with more than 40 staples. He was returned to the shelter late last week.

The pit bulls’ owner faces municipal charges of letting her dogs run at large.
