40 years ago: Ft. Riley man pulls gun on KS Turnpike employee

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 4, 1971:

  • A Ft. Riley man had been arraigned in Douglas County Court after a June 26 incident in which he had refused to pay his toll on the Kansas Turnpike. The incident had occurred at the West Lawrence interchange when the man had threatened a turnpike employee with a gun. The man was charged with felonious assault as well as failure to pay the fine, a misdemeanor.
  • A 13-year-old Lawrence boy had been referred to juvenile authorities after police witnessed him throwing firecrackers from the back seat of a car at a passing motorcyclist. The two Kansas University students riding the motorcycle had not been injured.
