Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room staff was busy Monday treating people who fell on icy sidewalks and parking lots.

Belinda Rehmer, an LMH spokeswoman, said 20 people came to the emergency room after freezing drizzle made some surfaces slippery starting Monday morning.

Rehmer said all of the patients were treated and released, but most will likely have follow-up visits with orthopedic doctors. She said hospital staffers were encouraging people to be careful especially when getting out of their vehicles.

I don't want to get sued, so I not only shovel the snow, but I also put sand down. There's always gonna be someone looking to file a lawsuit if they slip and fall.

I keep looking skyward and pleading "stop already". I left Buffalo for this very reason. How far south must we go.

I just slipped not 20 minutes ago. It was very painful though I don't want to pay a thousand dollars for a 2 hour long visit to the emergency room for 5 people to look at my knee, run some tests, and tell me to take ibuprofen.

Good call. I wish more people thought like that. If your knee were seriously debilitated I would expect you to go in. But RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) it, and you'll be fine, most likely.
