40 years ago: KU athletic department plans to increase student ticket prices

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 31, 1971:

  • The “Letters to the Editor” section included a note from a disgruntled McLouth reader who questioned the need for another Apollo mission to the moon. Money spent on these space missions, she opined, was needed in so many other deserving places here on Earth. “Now we TV watchers won’t be seeing anything but the progress of this flight for the next week. I hope some will enjoy it,” she concluded grimly.
  • The Kansas University athletic department was predicting increases in student season-ticket prices. Prices of $18 for football, compared with the then-current $5, and $15.50 for basketball compared with $4, were forecast. The increases were caused by lower allocations of money going to athletics.
