Lawrence woman arrested after road-rage incident on 31st Street

January 29, 2011

A 46-year-old Lawrence woman was arrested Friday afternoon following a road-rage incident on 31st Street.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Randy Roberts, the incident took place about 3:45 p.m. The suspect was driving a Ford pickup truck and was behind a vehicle going slower. The woman in the truck drove alongside the other vehicle before again getting behind it.

After a short drive eastbound on 31st Street, the two vehicles came to a stop near the intersection of 31st and Louisiana. The suspect then proceeded to drive into the victim’s car in front of her, pushing the other vehicle into the intersection, police said.

The suspect then left the scene heading north on Louisiana Street. She was stopped by officers in the 2700 block and arrested. The woman was booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, driving while suspended and no proof of insurance.

No one was injured during the incident.

And another thread is off to a wonderfully written, intelligent start.

They must have let her out to pillage Lawrence again.

If people knew how to use roundabouts, they would be a lot easier than 4 way intersections. But alas, some people don't know you're supposed to yield to the left at a roundabout and yield to the right at a stop sign. It's not rocket science.

Angela Heili 7 years, 1 month ago

They also apparently don't know you're supposed to use your turn signals when navigating a round about.

you keep talking about yield this, yield that, yield left, yield right.the only yield that i know of is a rock on road rage!!!!!

The city spends millions on building roundabouts but not very much to educate the public about how to drive them. No cops parked at them giving tickets to those that don't yield properly. I appreciate the comments made to how to negotiate. Some people don't know, some people might know but don't care.

And that is precisely why they are so dangerous. What kind of idiotic idea is putting a circular island with no signs in the flow of traffic. Tear every single !@#@$ one of them out and put in honest to god American four way stops.

I think the driver supports the bypass and the little old lady probably had a "save the salamanders" bumpersticker and a reservation lisence plate. Don't slow down to watch for beavers or you WILL get rear ended.

No license or proof of insurance? Really? What kind of idiot does stuff like this when they are driving illegally in the first place? Gotta learn how to fly under the radar! The nerve of some people.

they gave a perfectly good reason why,its called 'WOMEN".

This incident needs to be on an episode of "America's Dumbest Criminals"

Wow, she's lucky the victim didn't turn around and put a bullet in her skull. Unbelievable what people think they can get away with just because they have a car or truck to use both as a weapon and as a means of cowardly escape. 10 to 1 the victim's car was smaller than the rager's truck. Cowards.

Seriously, if we can't get a handle on aggressive drivers like this one, then the first use of lethal force in self-defense against one of these road raging idiots can't be far off. And since there isn't a law enforcement agency, traffic court, or legislature in the nation that has taken road rage and habitually criminal drivers seriously, this may be what it takes. Then the shooter can say, "I didn't see them."

More importantly, why isn't the perp charged with leaving the scene?

rousseau108 7 years, 1 month ago

Because it was not an "accident," she deliberately struck the other vehicle--hence the aggravated battery charge.

This all happened on 31st street...hmmm that seems a little bit far probly from where she was trying to get to as in her home- (REDBUD LANE)

People should just drive the speed limit and stop going 30 in 45's.

Crystal Patterson 7 years, 1 month ago

You do realize it's the speed LIMIT right and not a minimum people have to go...maybe people should slow down and enjoy life and not be in such a hurry to get everywhere as fast as they can.

notanoobhere 7 years, 1 month ago

you realize that there are other people in the world and they may not want to spend more of their life in a car than needed. Go the speed limit and maybe some crazy edgewood living scumbag wont try and run over your prius.

BigPrune 7 years, 1 month ago

It sounds like Lawrence should ban cars and trucks then there wouldn't be any road rage incidents to deal with............or potholes. What say you hippie freaks???? Would you buy a bigger bicycle if motorized vehicles were banned?

puddleglum 7 years, 1 month ago

funny. I was just wondering when someone would comment about how motorists always follow the laws and those gosh-darn cyclists always break them.

Hoots 7 years, 1 month ago

I guess she just couldn't figure out how to go around slower traffic on a 4 lane road like the rest of you do. Were alcohol or drugs invloved is my question.

Curtis Lange 7 years, 1 month ago

Slow drivers? In Lawrence? Noooooooooooooooo.

Thinking_Out_Loud 7 years, 1 month ago

Whenever I read a story about road rage I get angry.

And it appears she has already bonded out of jail on what looks like a total $15k bond.
