Kansas delegation seeks honor for Pilsen priest who died in POW camp

? Members of the Kansas congressional delegation are seeking federal legislation to award the Medal of Honor to a Korean War chaplain from Kansas.

The award would go to Father Emil Kapaun, an Army captain and Roman Catholic priest from Pilsen who died in a prisoner of war camp in May 1951.

In 2009, the secretary of the Army recommended that Kapaun receive the Medal of Honor for his service and sacrifice.

U.S. Reps. Mike Pompeo, Lynn Jenkins and Tim Huelskamp, all Kansas Republicans, along with Republican Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran, have introduced measures authorizing President Barack Obama to award the medal to Kapaun.

Catholic officials are also considering declaring Kapaun a saint.
