AARP offers help on tax preparation

AARP will again this year offer volunteer-run income tax assistance, including free income tax preparation and electronic filing.

Special emphasis is on assisting low to moderate-income senior citizen taxpayers. Services include federal, state and Kansas Homestead Tax returns.

The program will begin Feb. 1 and continue until April 18, which is the filing deadline this year.

The service will be offered at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt.

Taxpayers should bring a photo ID and proof of their Social Security number with them, along with their income, interest, or other tax statements.

Hours of operation are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
