25 years ago: Faithful KU fan celebrates 70 years of season tickets

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 19, 1986:

  • Ninety-year-old Wealthy Babcock was celebrating her 70th season of owning season tickets for Kansas University athletic events. Miss Babcock, a KU alumna and professor emerita of mathematics, had given up attending football games two years earlier, but she continued to be a faithful presence at basketball games. She had attended her first KU event – a football game – in 1915.
  • Seven KU buildings were scheduled for demolition during the coming summer. The buildings were a Quonset hut housing vehicle maintenance, a brick building where Facilities Operations employees clocked in and out, a World War II-era barracks that was currently housing some biological research projects, an additional brick structure, and three sheds. The buildings were being cleared away to make room for construction of the new Human Development Center, east of Haworth Hall.
