Lawrence hills provide perfect locations for sledding

With 4 inches of snow on the ground and a declared snow day, Lawrence is in prime condition for sledding.

Jesse Plotkin, a 23-year-old Lawrence resident, used to live close to campus while she was a student at Kansas University. Now she lives miles away from KU and is seeking places closer to her home to drag out a sled and enjoy the winter weather.

The Journal-World asked readers to submit their favorite sledding spots, and here’s what they’ve said:

• Campanile Hill, Memorial Drive

• Behind Hashinger Hall, 1632 Engel Road.

• Alvamar Public Golf Course, 1800 Crossgate Drive. (members only)

• Centennial Park’s hills

A crazier option:

• Clinton Lake Dam.

Thousands of kids are injured every year in sledding every year, so take caution when you hit the hills. Safe Kids Kansas offers these tips for sledding safety.
