25 years ago: County, city representatives meet on pit bull restrictions

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 10, 1986:

  • A recent meeting between the Douglas County Commission and representatives from Baldwin, Eudora, Lawrence and Lecompton had not resulted in any pit bull restrictions. The meeting had ended with the commissioners asking the city officials to vote on whether there was a need for such restrictions and whether the cities would support a countywide resolution on the issue. About 80 people on both sides of the issue had attended the meeting, and about two dozen had spoken during the public comments session.
  • A new skylight had been installed at the Douglas County Courthouse to replace the old plexiglass one, which had developed leaks. The new skylight would protect the stained-glass interior dome of the 83-year-old building.
