25 years ago: Packer Plastics introduces job-sharing program

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 23, 1986:

The concept of job-sharing was not new, but Packer Plastics in Lawrence might have been the first manufacturing plant in town that was willing to give it a try. Several women at the company met to discuss meshing their schedules to allow pairs of workers to cover one job seven nights a week, making for more flexibility in their childcare plans. The idea had been brought to Packer by Eric Walther, personnel manager. The starting salaries for new job-sharing employees was to be the same as for other part-time employees, which at the time ranged from $3.75 to $4.25 an hour, with a small premium for weekend work.
