One taken to hospital after single-vehicle accident

February 13, 2011

A 48-year-old Lawrence man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Sunday morning after being injured in a single-vehicle accident.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, the accident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Monterey Way. The man was believed to have been driving southbound on Monterey Way, traveling above the speed limit.

The vehicle drifted left of center and left the roadway on the east side of the street. Hadl said the vehicle became airborne and struck a fence, shed, tree and eventually a trailer before coming to a stop.

Hadl said the man's injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Police are investigating the use of alcohol as a possible factor in the incident.

The man was probably still disoriented after negociating that stupid and dangerous traffic circle two blocks north. When are they going to admit that they're a really bad idea?

If you're not smart enough to negotiate a traffic circle, you probably shouldn't be allowed to have a license.

I live in a reality that says that this Rhodes scholar would have drifted to the left, gotten airborne, destroyed the property of others and ruined his driving record even if there had been no circle there.

The circle told him to go so fast that he was able to get tons of steel to behave like a Cessna?

Seriously...what's so difficult about a traffic circle? Yield to vehicles already in the circle. Go when it's clear. Duh.

People who hate traffic circles must never fly out of KCI!!!
