School will go on as scheduled while repairs made to gas meter at Broken Arrow

A delivery truck damaged a natural gas meter Thursday morning in between Broken Arrow School and South Junior High School leaving some rooms temporarily without heat.

Julie Boyle, a Lawrence public schools spokeswoman, said the truck backed over the gas meter. She said technicians from Black Hills Energy are on the scene and shut off the gas to one system serving the buildings.

“They estimate repairs can be made quickly,” she said. “Separate systems service different parts of the buildings, so some areas are unaffected, while others are temporarily without heat.”

South Junior High moved a before-school choir class to the gymnasium as a precaution.

Boyle said classes started as scheduled in both buildings. The schools are near 27th and Louisiana streets in south Lawrence.
