Lawrence police are investigating a report of a sexual assault late Wednesday night.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said a 35-year-old Lawrence woman told officers that an acquaintance sexually assaulted her. Police were called just after midnight to the 2400 block of Alabama Street.

Police did not release a description of the suspect Thursday morning.

“Officers and detectives are still investigating the incident at this time,” Sarna said.

He said that the woman was taken to a hospital to be evaluated as part of the investigation but that she was not injured in the incident.
