25 years ago: Heavy morning fogs cover Lawrence for nearly a week

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 27, 1986:

  • Were Lawrence residents in danger of forgetting what a sunrise looked like? Perhaps not, but the fact remained that heavy fog had blanketed the area for six consecutive mornings. The fog usually had been dissipating during the daytime hours, but it had been returning at night, causing the recent Christmas Eve to resemble a scene from a tale by Dickens in foggy London.
  • Children of the Salkind family, Sara, 10, and Micah, 2, were featured in a front-page photograph as they demonstrated the lighting of the menorah for Hanukkah, which had begun on the previous evening. Sara and Micah were the children of Neil and Leni Salkind.
