Sentencing nears for Taiwan official in K.C.

? A federal judge has indicated he’s prepared to hold a sentencing hearing next month for a Taiwanese official in Kansas City who pleaded guilty to labor fraud.

Hsien Hsien Liu, former director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kansas City, pleaded guilty to fraud in foreign labor contracting in November. She admitted mistreating and underpaying two Philippine housekeepers in her Johnson County, Kan., home.

Liu paid a total of about $80,000 in restitution to the housekeepers. Under her plea agreement, Liu would be sentenced to time served and deported immediately.
