Police arrest two juveniles in connection with armed robbery at Lawrence apartment

Lawrence Police Department officers arrested two juveniles Thursday in connection with an armed robbery at a Lawrence apartment in the 1900 block of Stewart Avenue.

At 3:30 p.m., a victim told police dispatchers he and three other people were robbed by a Hispanic male carrying a sawed-off shotgun. The victim said the suspect took cash and a laptop computer from him at gunpoint. No injuries were reported.

The Hispanic suspect was described as skinny and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.

A second suspect was described as a heavy-set white man, 5-foot-9, also wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Officers were investigating the incident and searching the area southeast of 19th and Iowa streets Thursday afternoon, said Lawrence police spokesman Sgt. Matt Sarna.

At 9:15 p.m., police were called to Royal Crest Lanes, 933 Iowa, where a man matching the description of the second suspect had been spotted in the bowling alley’s parking lot. He was arrested Thursday night.

Sgt. Troy Squire confirmed the man arrested at the bowling alley was thought to be connected with the earlier robbery but declined to elaborate further given the ongoing investigation and the age of the suspects. The Journal-World could not confirm where the first suspect had been apprehended, but Squire confirmed both suspects were in custody.
