40 years ago: Hospital room rates, salaries to increase on Jan. 1

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 22, 1971:

An increase in room and service rates, as well as a salary hike, was approved this morning by board members of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Anticipated total income for LMH for 1972 was $3,142,674. Room rate increases, which were to take place on Jan. 1, were to be calculated on a sliding scale with the average semi-private room rising from the current $31.50 daily charge to $33.25. The delivery room rate was to rise from $60 to $70 and the bassinet daily charge was to increase from $18 to $19.50. The first hour in a surgical room would rise from $50 to $60 for major surgery and from $40 to $50 for minor operations, with increases for additional surgery hours calculated on a proportional basis.
