40 years ago: Kresge warehouse on its way to full operation

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 21, 1971:

Joseph E. Harris, traffic manager of the S. S. Kresge Center, said today that the facility had loaded and shipped its first truckload of merchandise. The new $7 million warehouse had begun receiving freight on Nov. 1 and was now about 25 percent full. Harris said that full shipping operations probably would not begin until Jan. 15 and that the current slate of 78 employees would then be increased to about 150, with up to 300 employees possibly being hired when the warehouse reached “peak operation,” a goal that was still several years away.
