NYC man sentenced for 1981 Riley County rapes

? A New York City man has been sentenced in Kansas to 12 to 20 years in prison for two rapes that occurred 30 years ago.

KMAN-AM reports that under a plea deal, Kansas prosecutors had said they would not oppose five years of house arrested in New York for Daniel Brewer.

But Riley County District Judge David Stutzman ruled Monday that the rapes warranted prison time.

The rapes in the town of Ogden occurred in March and July of 1981. In July, Brewer pleaded no contest in one case and guilty in the other.

Another man, Fort Riley soldier Eddie Lowery, was wrongfully convicted of the second rape and spent 10 years in prison before being cleared by DNA. Lowery said Monday he’s relieved that Brewer is going to prison.
