A 45-year-old Lawrence woman pleaded no contest Tuesday to stealing money from her former employer, a Lawrence rental company.

Jeannie M. Faulconer entered the pleas to two counts of forgery and two counts of theft, all felonies, and Douglas County prosecutors agreed to dismiss 10 other charges she faced.

Chief assistant district attorney David Melton said prosecutors had evidence Faulconer forged the signature of another employee at Miller & Midyett Rentals twice in January 2009 and made out two $1,000 checks in her husband’s name. Prosecutors charged Faulconer in July with 14 total counts of forgery and theft, alleging she stole money from January to April 2009.

She was charged after an investigation into a police report from Larry Midyett, an owner of Miller & Midyett, alleging 30 business checks totaling $33,455 were embezzled between December 2008 and April 2009.

Faulconer’s attorney, Andrew Bolton, said his client would pay restitution, but no amount has been determined. Attorneys expect Faulconer to qualify for probation, based on her criminal history.

Faulconer’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 3.
