December 17, 2011

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 17, 1971:

  • The annual financial report issued by officials at Kansas University showed income and expenditures hitting record levels for the fiscal year which had ended June 30. Operating expenditures on Mt. Oread had totaled $51,179,336.99, which did not include figures for "university-related enterprises" such as athletics, the Endowment Association or the Kansas Union.
  • A new postseason basketball game had been approved by the NCAA, bringing together teams from the east and the west. Ted Owens, head basketball coach at the University of Kansas, had been asked to coach the west team, with the coach of the east team to be announced later. The game was to be known as the Pizza Hut Basketball Classic.
