WSU instructor writes about transracial adoption

? An assistant professor at Wichita State University will be at the Rhatigan Student Center on Friday evening signing copies of his new book about transracial adoption.

Darron T. Smith is black and a physician assistant in the College of Health Professions. He helped write “White Parents, Black Children: Experiencing Transracial Adoption.”

Smith will sign the books from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Friday.

The basic premise of the book is that love is not enough. He says it is important for adoptive parents to widen their circle, even considering moving to an integrated neighborhood.

He says it is also important for adoptive parents not to downplay racial slights or taunts because that only makes the experience worse for their children.
