Former Kansas coach Turner Gill has been hired as the eighth coach at Liberty University — an FCS school in Lynchburg, Va.

Gill will be introduced as coach at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.

"As we conducted this search during the past nine days, his name was recommended to us over and over from coaches and athletics directors from around the country as the right man to lead our football program," Liberty athletic director Jeff Barber said. "Turner embraces all that Liberty is and stands for and it will be a privilege to work alongside him as we continue to move our football program forward."

Gill, who was fired by KU on Nov. 27, posted a 5-19 record in two seasons with the Jayhawks.

Liberty's website describes the school as "the largest private non-profit university in the nation, the largest university in Virginia, and the largest Christian university in the world."

"Every indication is that (Gill) is a perfect fit for Liberty University," LU chancellor and president Jerry Falwell, Jr. said. "His experience is at the level where we would like to take our football program. His Christian faith is strong and sincere and what any new recruit would expect to see in a Liberty University head football coach. I think Liberty University and Turner Gill were made for each other."

A much better fit for Coach Gill than KU. I wish him the best.

Perfect. And he doesn't have to fret a Christian salary.

Best Wishes to Turner Gill and his family...

Maybe he can teach Philll Kline a few of those actual real Christian Beliefs. Nah, that would be too big a job even for him.

Good luck Turner it does sound like a good fit.

What could be more Christian than attempting to protect the unborn ??

BTW, I, myself, encourage all the liberal Dumocrats I know to get all the abortions they can handle. There are way too many of them as it is !!

No question he is a good man...and now, thanks to an incredibly lopsided KU contract, a rich man as well. Good luck Coach Gill.

If he can't win there, it must be God's fault.

Will they fire God if they don't win?

Hmmm, How much are they paying him. Maybe a guarantee into heaven if he wins and if he loses, well thats another guarantee.

They say when God closes a door He opens a window. I think it's great that he has found a place where living your faith is encouraged and expected. I wish him much success in life--and there's more to "success" than the number of wins you have!

Congratulations, Coach Gill. I guess it didn't take him long to become a Head Football coach again (unlike Mangino) It will be interesting to see if Gill wins at Liberty and if Weiss can win here....

Back in the 50's there was a Kansas State "College" coach who was a perennial loser but a good guy. Can't remember his name but he too was well liked. I did too. Anyone remember him? his name?

Best wishes to Turner.

Gill seems like a nice guy, but he lacked enitrely the ability to manage the program and its players on EVERY level. Lots of rumors circulating that his termination went far beyond just losses but a complete failure to control his players (failed drug tests, academic failures, lack of conditioning, etc) and not just a few players but on a massive scale. He was not the second coming and is not worthy of any title other than failed coach; so I wish people would stop giving him so many kudos. He will now coach at a school that literally awaits the real second coming...and again it will not be him.

Rumors and $11 will get you a cup of coffee (Starbucks prices). If those rumors were true, he probably would have been fired for cause and not eligible for the payout. I wouldn't put much faith in hearsay.
