Chiefs’ Crennel says he wants to be head coach

? Romeo Crennel says he still has the “competitive energy” that it takes to be an NFL head coach and he wants the job with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Crennel spoke Tuesday for the first time since he was appointed interim coach. He will lead the Chiefs for the final three games after Todd Haley was fired on Monday.

The former Cleveland coach says his experience with the Browns, who were just 24-40 in his four seasons, left him with plenty to prove.

General manager Scott Pioli says Crennel will be given the opportunity to interview for the job. Crennel certainly hasn’t hurt his chances as defensive coordinator the past two seasons, presiding over a unit that has been the Chiefs’ biggest strength.
