— Romeo Crennel says he still has the "competitive energy" that it takes to be an NFL head coach and he wants the job with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Crennel spoke Tuesday for the first time since he was appointed interim coach. He will lead the Chiefs for the final three games after Todd Haley was fired on Monday.

The former Cleveland coach says his experience with the Browns, who were just 24-40 in his four seasons, left him with plenty to prove.

General manager Scott Pioli says Crennel will be given the opportunity to interview for the job. Crennel certainly hasn't hurt his chances as defensive coordinator the past two seasons, presiding over a unit that has been the Chiefs' biggest strength.

Fire Pioli. Back a dumptruck loaded with gold bullion up to Cowher's house and say "It's all yours, pal. What else do you want?" The chance of Clark Hunt doing this are slim and none of course and we all know that Slim got on his horse and rode out of Dodge City long ago. The Hunts are the curse of Chiefs players, coaches and fans.

I like Romeo, but I like Chuckie better.

Romeo does bring that impressive 24-40 record from the Browns with him, though.

I like Coach Crennel, but I wouldn't do that unless proven winners such as Gruden, Cowher, and Shanahan turn the job down. Heck, if KSU can bring Snyder back and win again, maybe KC ought to bring Marty back!
