Knife reported in domestic disturbance

Douglas County prosecutors Thursday filed charges against a 32-year-old Lawrence man accused of threatening his girlfriend with a knife Wednesday night during a domestic disturbance. Prosecutors charged Willie James Richardson with aggravated assault, making a criminal threat and domestic battery. Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said police were called just before 11 p.m. Wednesday to the 1400 block of Legends Circle. The woman, 33, alleged her boyfriend hit her and threatened her with a knife. The woman initially declined medical attention, but she was later taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Sarna said.
