Brown vs. Board of Education foundation audit’s release delayed

? It could early next year before the National Park Service releases an audit of the finances of a Topeka foundation that has been kicked out of the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site.

Site superintendent David Smith says the Brown Foundation for Educational Equity, Excellence and Research got a copy of the audit Thursday.

Copies were to be distributed this week to the state’s congressional delegation. But the park service learned the foundation needs more time to respond. Smith says the earliest the audit could be released to the media is Jan. 2.

Smith says the initial results of the audit were so troubling that the park service suspended funding to the foundation.

The foundation has questioned the park service’s actions.
