Hundreds line up for Obama’s speech in Osawatomie

? Several hundred people have braved freezing weather for the opportunity to hear President Barack Obama speak in a small Kansas town.

Obama chose Osawatomie for Tuesday afternoon’s event because President Teddy Roosevelt gave a speech in the town in 1910 extolling government intervention in the economy on behalf of the disadvantaged.

But Anthony DeLeon, a Tyson Foods manager in nearby Gardner, said Obama has yet to deliver on the change he promised in 2008. DeLeon is a registered Democrat, but he’s not sure he’ll vote for Obama’s re-election.

Alice Heath, a 62-year-old retired food service worker, plans to vote for Obama a second time. But she’s looking for him to improve the economy.

Kansas seems certain to vote Republican in next year’s presidential election, as it has since 1964.
