Police search for armed robbery suspect

Lawrence police are searching for a man suspected of robbing another man of a television set at gunpoint early Thursday in the 700 block of Alabama Street.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said a 21-year-old Lawrence man, who was a guest at the residence, reported the robbery occurred at 1:47 a.m. Thursday.

The suspect, described as a black male, also stole a 1999 Cadillac from the driveway of the home, owned by a 59-year-old Lawrence man. Officers eventually located the Cadillac near Sixth Street and Monterey Way, and after a brief pursuit the suspect crashed the car near Monterey Way and Bob Billings Parkway before running away on foot.

Sarna said Thursday evening police were still looking for the suspect, although they did locate and interview a possible accomplice, who was not arrested Thursday. The suspected accomplice was driving a 2000 Nissan that had the TV inside, Sarna said, and officers stopped him near Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive.
