From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 2, 1986:
- The rough draft of the "K-10 Corridor Study" had been released on the previous morning. The study, which had been initiated six months earlier, was a joint effort between Douglas County and Johnson County officials to establish a land-use pattern to guide future development along Kansas Highway 10. The preliminary draft of the study outlined a number of planning objectives, including review of existing zonings, discouragement of commercial or industrial development at interchanges, and development of a roadside park or memorial area at or near the county line.
- The annual Lawrence Warm Hearts drive opened this week with a goal of $65,000. The organization's purpose was to raise money to help people who were unable to pay their heating bills during the winter. Last winter, the group had spent $63,613 to help 394 households throughout Douglas County.
