Man sentenced for shooting at Leavenworth police

? A Leavenworth man has been sentenced to six years in prison for shooting at police officers during a standoff.

No officers were injured when 34-year-old Byron R. McCary fired several shots from an apartment on May 13. He was arrested after becoming incapacitated when officers fired beanbag rounds at him.

McCary was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison. He pleaded guilty last month to three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.

The Leavenworth Times reports that McCary’s attorney, Gregory Robinson said during Wednesday’s hearing that McCary was extremely drunk during the standoff.
