Lawrence man, 45, charged with aggravated assault after altercation

Douglas County prosecutors Thursday charged a 45-year-old Lawrence man with aggravated assault and two other charges for an altercation with a neighbor Wednesday night in the 1300 block of Ohio Street.

A judge Thursday set bond for Shawn David Headrick at $10,000 and scheduled his next hearing for Monday.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said the man’s 23-year-old neighbor called officers after 11 p.m. Wednesday and alleged Headrick was yelling and hitting his door. After the victim opened the door, he also alleged Headrick threatened to hurt him and his girlfriend.

“It was alleged the suspect stated he had a gun, but one was never seen,” Sarna said. “The suspect was found to be in the possession of a hammer when he was contacted by police.”

No injuries were reported. Prosecutors charged Headrick with aggravated assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.
