Kansas archers may apply to hunt for deer in parks at Clinton Lake

If you’ve ever wanted to hunt deer in Clinton Lake parks, now’s your chance.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking applications for its annual Special Archery Hunt, to be conducted in November and December at Bloomington and Rockhaven parks at the lake southwest of Lawrence.

While hunting normally is prohibited in park areas at the lake, corps officials rely on the annual specialty hunt to prevent overpopulation of deer.

Applications are due by Sept. 29, and hunters — selected at random — will be assigned to hunting units and allowed to choose a second hunter to join them. Each hunter must carry a special corps-issue permit, and adhere to state laws.
