A resurfacing project along a 10-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 24-40 is expected to begin Thursday.
Work will be done on both directions of the highway, from just west of the Kansas Highway 16 intersection in Leavenworth County to the Kansas Highway 32 intersection in Douglas County.
The road work will take place during daylight hours Monday through Saturday, and workers will guide traffic through the work zone. Delays are expected to be as long as 15 minutes, and the $825,000 project is expected to be completed in mid-October.

I agree, I'm sure there is a better time they could do the resurfacing.

To get to the lake take CR1 to I70 to K10 south and bypass lawrence all together. It cuts 20 minutes off, but you have to pay for four axles. It's still worth it without the traffic.
