County to purchase additional property
Douglas County commissioners Wednesday authorized County Administrator Craig Weinaug to send an offer to Printing Solutions for a parcel of land in the Franklin Business Park.
The offer to the company is one of two potential property acquisitions the county included as part of a plan to build a new Public Works facility near Douglas County Jail, 3601 E. 25th St.
The original property to be purchased by the county covers approximately 34 acres. The two additional purchase offers would serve to give the future facility more room to expand and grow, though a timeline for the process has not been set.
The land addition gives the county control of the Board of Trustees of the covenants, which ultimately will provide the downtown homeless shelter with the ability to relocate.
As laid out in the proposed agreement in late July, the county will offer Printing Solutions the 2011 county-appraised price of $250,000 for the property, which includes Hillcrest Wrecker. The other parcel included in the land acquisition plan was that of the Taylor Property, also adjacent to the Franklin Business Park. No formal offer to purchase that property has been made by the county.
