Road crews to begin work Wednesday on ramp between Sixth Street and McDonald Drive

Some Sixth Street motorists heading toward the Kansas Turnpike should expect a detour near McDonald Drive on Wednesday morning.

Construction crews will begin repairing pavement on the upper ramp leading off Sixth Street onto McDonald Drive on Wednesday. The ramp will require westbound motorists on Sixth Street who want to exit onto McDonald to take a detour. The detour will be marked and will involve taking Rockledge Road to access McDonald Drive. The detour is expected to be in place through Friday.

The detour won’t impact northbound traffic on Iowa Street or eastbound Sixth Street traffic that is accessing McDonald Drive, which is the road that leads to the West Lawrence turnpike interchange.

The pavement repair work is part of a larger project to repave Sixth Street east of Iowa. That project is expected to continue through mid-September.
