A resurfacing project was scheduled to begin Tuesday on an 11-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 56 from the Douglas-Osage county line east to the junction of U.S. 59.

Crews are scheduled to work days, Monday through Friday — and on an occasional Saturday.

Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes, according to a Kansas Department of Transportation news release. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Dustrol Inc. is the primary contractor on the $1.217 million resurfacing project, which includes workers milling the top two inches of pavement and applying a two-inch asphalt overlay that uses some of the material recycled from the milling process. Work is expected to be completed in mid-September.
