From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 22, 1986:

• Plans for renovating the old Mont Bleu Ski Resort, which had operated in the 1960s and 1970s, were on hold. Marcus McCloud, one of the developers planning the $1 million project southeast of Lawrence, said that groundbreaking was to be delayed until spring because of funding delays.
• A recent report from Kansas University’s Office of Institutional Research and Planning showed that the average ACT score for the 1985 freshman class was almost three percentage points above the national average.
• Lawrence residents were adjusting to the return of KU students and their vehicles. Ron Olin, assistant police chief, said that the city had “maintained incredibly dense traffic” since the students had come back to town. However, he optimistically speculated that much of the traffic stemmed from students running errands and getting settled in, and that it might dissipate once classes got underway.
