25 years ago: Software company to move into west Lawrence industrial park

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 21, 1986:

  • The University Corporate and Research Park at 15th and Wakarusa was about to get a new tenant. A computer software company, WOS Data Systems Inc., was planning to lease space in the park around the first of the year. WOS developed database management software and fund accounting software. An official connected with the company described Lawrence as a “wonderful area” that he thought would become the “high-tech center of Kansas.”
  • The American Red Cross blood collection center located at 329 Missouri was celebrating its second anniversary. Jo Byers, executive director of the Douglas County Chapter of the Red Cross, said that the center had collected nearly 4,000 units of blood in a year, which was an increase of 1,000 units since the previous year.
  • South Park was to play host to the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships for the sixth year. About 80 contestants were expected to compete during the upcoming weekend.
