A 27-year-old Lawrence woman was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Friday evening after flipping her car near the intersection of Sixth and Ohio streets.
Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley said the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. The woman was believed to have been driving southbound on Ohio Street before turning. Her vehicle then struck a parked car and rolled. McKinley said there were no witnesses present at the time of the accident, so police are still not exactly sure how fast the woman had been driving or what events led to the accident. McKinley said the woman’s injuries appeared to be minor.

Perhaps any of the following contributing factors; cell phone usage, applying makeup, eating a donut, reading a book, a little too much alcohol, playing grab-ass, looking at the fall colors, going too fast, brakes failed, avoiding a armadillo, sun blinded her, whatever! She'll need a good story for this one

just before 8p.m. looked right (WEST) in the direction of the sun i could see that being possible.and yes check the cell phone.

It was in the middle of the 600 block of Ohio, so you can rule out looking west. My vote is for alcohol or texting.

I would be curious what kind of car she was driving. I saw a car going 30 mph hit a pothole, swerve to the curb and flip in Topeka one day. It was a boxy suv.

Not an SUV- it was a standard 4 door sedan so I don't think we can blame the car.

Good point. Assuming she has been driving since she was 15-16 and assuming the accident does not turn out to be caused by a mechanical failure, you could probably make a pretty good case for her being a slow learner.

No claim of mechanical failure -- according to my neighbors she claimed that she fell asleep at the wheel. (I live on the block and saw the aftermath)

Very lucky she didn't hurt anyone. Hope she uses this event as a wakeup call (pun intended) to fix whatever the problem is (driving on too little sleep, driving on sleep-inducing meds, narcolepsy, or whatever the case may be).
