40 years ago: Validity of KU parking permits extended

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 19, 1971:

  • Uncertainties over the effect of recent federal wage-price freezes were causing Kansas University parking officials to announce that all current (1970-1971) parking zone stickers would remain valid until Sept. 13. Residence hall parking permits had been slated to cost $15 (up from $10) and permits for KU’s assigned lots were to increase from $15 to $25.
  • Three girls, one 14 years of age and two 15, were treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after having been struck by a car on West 27th Street, just east of Missouri. A dog owned by one of the girls had been killed when the westbound car had struck the group as they were walking west on the north side of the street.
