Alvamar qualifier wraps up

14 golfers from two courses advance to Thursday’s Nationwide tourney in Overland Park

Over two rain-soaked days at Alvamar Golf and Country Club, a field of more than 200 of the region’s best golfers was trimmed to 14 qualifiers for this weeks Nationwide Tour stop at LionsGate in Overland Park.

The low seven scores from each course qualified for Thursday’s event.

Monday’s five-hour rain delay forced some players to conclude their rounds Tuesday, and former Kansas University golfer and Lawrence resident Chris Thompson’s 65 remained the best round of the qualifier. Thompson managed to finish his round on the public course before rain halted play Monday.

Thompson shot 30 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine.

The low seven scores from each course qualified for Thursday’s Nationwide event.

Qualifying from Alvamar Golf Course were Thompson, Robert Streb (68), Brice Garnett (68), Derek Tolan (68), Kiel Ryan (68), David Robinson (69) and Pablo Acuna (69). Robinson and Acuna survived a three-man playoff Tuesday.

The qualifiers from Alvamar Country Club were Kevin Tway (68), Will Dodson (68), Cody Slover (69), Scott Parel (69), Christopher DeForest (70), Wes Homan (71) and Greg O’Mahony (71).

Homan and O’Mahony advanced from a seven-way playoff Tuesday.
