KU track’s Dixon, Finley advance in China

? Kansas University track athletes Diamond Dixon and Mason Finley advanced in their respective events at the World University Games on Tuesday.

Dixon, a sophomore, moved on to the semifinals of the 400 meters, while Finley, a junior, advanced to the finals of the shot put.

Dixon, who hails from El Paso, Texas, claimed an automatic qualification to the next round by winning her quarterfinal heat. The Big 12 400-meter champion rounded the track in 53.67.

Dixon will race again at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (5:30 a.m. Central Time).

Finley only needed one throw (18.92 meters, 62-01 feet) to move on to the shot put final.

The Salida, Colo., native will enter the finals early Tuesday morning.
