Get serious

To the editor:

The Tea Party has taken an uncompromising and principled stand by telling Washington to stop overspending and get America’s financial house in order. They are demanding fiscal responsibility to solve our economic and employment crises.

The result is the blame game is in full swing. Everyone from the president to Congress to some citizens blames the Tea Party for the so-called debt crises. The Tea Party is only guilty of trying to get Washington to balance the budget, quit the tax-and-spend and live within our existing means. And Washington doesn’t like it. Society had to change from living beyond their means, and so does Washington. We don’t get an income increase just because we overspend and neither should Washington.

Why isn’t Washington blamed for not compromising to reduce our excessive debt and spending? The current debt ceiling bill still increases our national debt, shameful. America has massive and unsustainable amounts of debt. We demand sustainability in our environment. We must also demand fiscal sustainability of our government.

America’s financial and employment crises would improve if the Senate and president were willing to 1) develop a meaningful compromise with the House and pass a version of the House Act named “Cut, Cap and Balance,” 2) implement meaningful tax reform, and 3) pass a budget for next year.

It is time for leadership. Quit pointing fingers, get serious about the task at hand, and put America’s financial house in order.
