A Douglas County jury Friday convicted a 25-year-old Overland Park man of committing three burglaries at west Lawrence residences in March.

But jurors acquitted Scott Blackmon in connection with a fourth burglary of the home of four former Kansas University football players, in which he was accused of stealing an Orange Bowl ring and an Insight Bowl ring, prosecutors said.

The jury convicted Blackmon of two counts of burglary and one count of aggravated burglary, in which he was accused of robbing a Lawrence family’s home March 16 in the 2400 block of Atchison Avenue while the family’s teenage daughter was in the house. They also convicted him of two counts of felony theft; one count of misdemeanor theft; two counts of misdemeanor criminal damage; and one count of obstruction.

A co-defendant, Meglin Rego, who pleaded guilty to burglary and conspiracy, testified against Blackmon.

During the three-day trial, prosecutors had alleged the crime spree began with the March 3 burglary of the home of former KU players Jake Laptad, Justin Springer, Steven Foster and Drew Dudley in the 400 block of Trent Court. But jurors found him not guilty of the burglary and theft counts connected to that incident. Jurors also acquitted him of a separate misdemeanor criminal damage charge.

District Judge Kay Huff is scheduled to sentence Blackmon on Sept. 26.
