40 years ago: KU students, AD disagree on season ticket prices

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 12, 1971:

  • Kansas University’s athletic department and the Student Athletic Seating Board were at an impasse regarding a dispute over student ticket prices. The student board had recently voted to hold prices at $5 for student season football tickets, while the price announced earlier by Wade Stinson, athletic director, was $6.50. Stinson said that the board’s action had no bearing on ticket prices, while students maintained that the board was empowered to set prices.
  • A tentative agreement had been reached with Bob Hope’s agent to have the comedian present a show at KU during October’s Homecoming week. A contract agreed upon in recent discussions was being reviewed by a local lawyer, and the event also needed to be cleared by the KU Events Committee for approval of the use of university facilities for the performance.
