Lecompton woman listed in good condition after one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 40

A 61-year-old Lecompton woman was listed in good condition Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after she was injured Monday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 40 near the Shawnee County line, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman, said Pamela Cook failed to navigate a curve in her Toyota SUV just after 3 p.m. Monday. She crossed the center line, left the north side of the highway, struck a mailbox, hit the ditch and then struck a legally parked pickup truck, Lewis said.

Lewis said according to the accident report officers were investigating inattentive driving and failing to maintain a lane as contributing factors.
