Central Kansas food banks to give away produce

? Food banks in central Kansas will be giving out free produce to families in need on Friday.

The Hutchinson News reports that the Kansas Food Bank and Reno County Food Bank will distribute fresh produce beginning at 1 p.m. at the Reno County Food Bank. The produce will include peaches, plums, nectarines and potatoes and will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Kansas Food Bank released information recently showing that in Reno County, 13.6 percent of the population — or 8,590 people — report difficulties with getting enough food. Of those, 35 percent don’t qualify for any type of assistance, such as food stamps.

Participants Friday will be asked only how many people live in their household.
