An Iowa man is dead after being trapped beneath a large bale of hay that fell off the back of a truck near Newton.

The Wichita Eagle reports 51-year-old Dennis Augustin of Dubuque, Iowa, was pronounced dead around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office says Augustin was getting ready to unload large round bales of hay from a truck he had been driving when 13 bales slid off.

Deputies were called to the scene five miles east of Newton around 9:35 a.m. after Augustin was trapped under one of the bales.
